When I used commercially available kits that labs like LabCorp use, VEGF went un-detected. Theranos VEGF test Detected Levels that were as high as 13,000+ where the healthy normal is: 50-400. Here’s why this happens. Avastin is really Anti-VEGF - it’s an Antibody that attaches to VEGF. You don’t need to be a PhD to understand that there is a problem here. You just need to understand that antibodies attach to proteins/ antigens. My technology by-passes the Test Jam and gets a Clear picture of your blood when Avastin is present. Effects of Avastin on the Reference VEGF Assay:
Here’s what I did to make sure I am testing accurately and being precise.
I took 1 Sample and split them into 2 samples.
One for R&D Systems test. The other for Theranos Systems Test.
I then added a spike to each of the samples with a concentration level of 400 pg/ml. The samples I spiked already had a known value of 149 pg/ml. I did the simple math and set my target to 549 pg/ml. Per regulatory guidelines, my allowable error was 20%. I then ran the tests.
THERANOS SYSTEMS: 588 PG/ML VS
R&D SYSTEMS:149 PG/ML
I GOT 588 PG/ML. THAT’S REALLY GOOD WHEN MY TARGET WAS 549 PG/ML.
